LEGO 75396 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit launching August 2024 (with Nien Nunb minifigure!)

Jabba: “You will therefore be taken to the Dune Sea and cast into the Pit of Carkoon, the nesting place of the all-powerful Sarlacc.
Han: “Doesn’t sound so bad.
Jabba: “In its belly, you will find a new definition of pain and suffering, as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.
Chewbacca: “Aaarrrr!
Han: “On second thought, let’s pass on that, huh?

Classic scene! Though I could argue that this upcoming Desert Skiff set (releasing August 2024) might have made more sense for last year’s Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary lineup of sets, I have a feeling this set is designed to play in tandem with the potential UCS Jabba’s Sail Barge set that’s hopefully coming later in 2024.

*Update – This set can now been seen on!

Star Wars Sarlacc Pit and Desert Skiff

This 558 piece set includes the fearsome Sarlacc in his pit (well, technically just his mouth), the Desert Skiff, and a handful of our favorite Episode VI characters (more on them below).

The set will be priced at $79.99, which does seem high for the relatively low piece count, but the 6 included minifigures (plus a special 25th Anniversary minifigure!) do add some extra value there.

RIP (almost!) Boba Fett… no spoilers if you haven’t seen the Book of Boba Fett show 😉

Speaking of minifigures, we’re getting 6 figures in this set, including some updated figures from previous years:

  • Boba Fett (same minifigure as 2023’s Mech version, which is a GREAT figure if you can forgive the lack of cape)
  • Lando Calrissian in disguise
  • Partially blind Han Solo with handcuffs
  • Chewbacca with handcuffs
  • A brand new Luke Skywalker in his black Jedi robes with a new hairpiece

Latest rumors are also indicating this set will include a 6th minifigure – one of the exclusive 25th Anniversary figures that are sprinkled throughout various 2024 sets to celebrate LEGO Star Wars turning 25.

*Update – this figure has been confirmed to be Nien Nunb!

Exclusive 25th Anniversary Minifigure – Nien Nunb

Nien Nunb confirmed to be the special included 25th anniversary minifigure!

For fans who aren’t super familiar or need a quick reminder, Nien makes several appearances from Episode VI through IX as a pilot. Here are some of his highlights:

  • Co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon with Lando Calrissian during the Battle of Endor
  • X-Wing pilot during the Battle of Starkiller Base (he had been promoted to a Lieutenant Commander by this point!)
  • Pilot of Leia’s old Tantive IV Blockade Runner during the Battle of Exegol – unfortunately he was killed when Palatine’s massive lightning storm struck the Resistance ships and the Tantive exploded 🙁

Although I wouldn’t have guessed Nien Nunb as one of the Anniversary minifigures in a million years, I’m actually pretty excited by this. He’s a cool “easter egg” sort of character, and it’s super neat that his character has made a few appearances throughout multiple Star Wars movies over the decades. I’m all for it, and am excited to see this classic figure come to life through LEGO!

Sarlacc Monster & Desert Skiff Details

The “Almighty Sarlacc”

Lego 75396 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit operation
Glad to see some functionality for his mouth and creepy tentacles.

In case it’s been a while since you’ve seen Episode VI, Tatooine’s got these real nasty creatures called Sarlacc Monsters – massive carnivores who live in pits in the Dune Sea and slowly swallow and digest whatever they can find.

This particular Sarlacc from Return of the Jedi was fondly called the “almighty Sarlacc”. Supposedly Jabba the Hutt loved keeping it as a “pet” and, you know, also used it for the occasional not-so-friendly execution. Hey, a Crime Lord’s gotta do his thing!

Jabba’s Desert Skiff – Walk the Plank!

Jabba's Desert Skiff

This rust-covered floating utility skiff was Jabba’s preferred execution transport vehicle. It came equipped with retractable planks – perfect for dropping prisoners into the (always hungry) Sarlacc. Too bad this trick doesn’t work with Jedi!

LEGO’s previous version of the Desert Skiff and Sarlacc Pit was set #75174 from 2017, which can still be found on eBay and Amazon for those interested. This set only had 277 pieces, so this new 2024 version is a significantly more detailed and larger build with 558 pieces.

I’m VERY excited to see the potential duo of this ‘Sarlacc meets the Desert Skiff’ set combined with the UCS Jabba’s Sail Barge set that should be launching one month later in October 2024! What a great year for Return of the Jedi fans!

In the meantime, stay up to date on all the rest of the 2024 LEGO Star Wars news here.
